Mesrine. Jacques Mesrine was a French international gangster who was gunned down in 1979 by a police unit set-up solely to eliminate him, thus guaranteeing he would become one of history’s criminal icons and ensuring his robberies, murders and prison breaks would one day become legendary. And as French exports go, this renegade is definitely up there with the Camembert, Pinot Noir and fries. US Release date 3rd September of Mesrine: Public Enemy No. 1 (Part 2). UK DVD release date 25th January, 2010. Based on the book ‘L’instinct de Mort’ by Jacques Mesrine.
September 4: Dorian Gray (DVD) This story takes a long time to get going, and the mystery of Dorian Gray’s portrait is never explained, but there’s a real sense of time and place and the two main characters draw us in and prove that you don’t have to like who’s up there on the screen, you just have to get them, and who doesn’t get a guy who has such a good time that he misplaces his soul? Exactly
September 8: (Limited opening) Catfish. Universal Pictures, Rogue Pictures.
September 10: The Town, a crime-drama film from Warner Bros. Pictures.
September 10: MESRINE: PUBLIC ENEMY #1 - One of History's Greatest Gangsters Jacques Mesrine was a French international gangster who was gunned down in 1979 by a police unit set-up solely to eliminate him, thus guaranteeing he would become one of history’s criminal icons and ensuring his robberies, murders and prison breaks would one day become legendary. Mesrine: Killer Instinct is the first one, Mesrine: Public Enemy #1 is the sequel. Both 2.30 hrs, both brilliant films.
September 15: Never Let me Go title suggests that this is a boy meets girl movie, in the vein of Love Story, but sadly this is not the case. It's actually about misery, suffering, hopelessness and death, and has very little to do with matters of the heart, unless you count the deadly surgical removals at the local hospital. I bet you can't wait to get to the theatre, can you?
US: September 17, 2010
The Adjustment Bureau. Matt Damon is a man who glimpses the future Fate has planned for him and realizes he wants something else. To get it, he must pursue the only woman he's ever loved (EMILY BLUNT) across, under and through the streets of modern-day New York.Universal Pictures.
Catfish is a documentary about someone who misrepresents them self on Facebook and, after many megabytes of paraphernalia, comes face to face with the recipient of her electronic deceit.
The Roommate. Sony Pictures.
The Town refers to Charlestown, Boston, a place where fathers proudly mentor their sons to follow in their footsteps, which mostly lead to the local jail, but at least the sentiment is there. UK: 24 September 2010. See more international opening dates.
Warrior. Lionsgate.
